You Cannot Run Anymore. It’s Time To Answer The Call…

I sat at my desk listening to healing sounds with the smell of ginger black tea engulfing my apartment. It was another day filled with tasks to take care of. When I finally sat down, I knew it was time to focus or watch the list grow larger. That made the importance of blocking out the time to complete certain items on my agenda even more obvious. This part of my work is crucial. I am no longer attempting to make up for lost time. I choose to give myself the time that I deserve.

One promise I made to myself is to continue learning and this year has been full of lessons. At the top of the list is . . . life comes at you fast. I stumbled upon a masterclass in resilience and I continue to gain more insight on the topic every day. Although I cannot go as far as saying the lessons have been fun, it is abundantly clear to me the experiences serve a greater purpose. I have been unknowingly preparing for this moment my entire life.

If I painted a picture 10 years ago of what my life would look like today, I don’t think it would have looked anything like this. My vision was the exact opposite. It took me some time to appreciate this part of my journey, but I cannot dismiss the evidence. I needed to do a lot of work.

You cannot run from it.

That’s the advice I received from my father. No matter where you go or what you do, you cannot run from it. When you’re in a certain season of your life, stillness is key and that is what my dad wanted me to remember.

I have frequently been tempted to handle this part of my journey the way I dealt with everything else. I decided to battle right through it, because I would not allow myself to be beaten. When I hit the wall, it came out of nowhere and it meant I had to evaluate every aspect of my life — all of the successes, each failure and everything in between required analysis. Stillness was the only option I had left.

As mentioned above, the lessons during a season like this are nonstop.

Here are the ones that are top of mind right now:

Give yourself permission to fail. That’s how you’ll learn.

Give yourself permission to change. That’s how you’ll grow.

Give yourself permission to be wrong. That’s how you’ll find a way to get it right.

You don’t need permission to be true to who you are, but you might need a reminder. One of the quotes that hit home for me in the last several months is, “Don’t allow who you used to be keep you from being who you can be.” It’s one of those important reminders I often leaned on during tough trials. Over and again, I said it to myself and heard it from others — just keep going.

That is what you owe yourself too.

I hope you know it just like I do. Your destiny awaits. Be prepared to answer the call.

As always, remember . . .

No matter what happens in your life, no matter how tough it gets…

It’s gonna hurt, but it won’t kill you.
