You Don’t Have Time To Waste

Are you prepared to deal with the consequences?

It is a question we should always ask ourselves. Whether we expect the results of our choices to be positive or negative, it is our duty to consider the repercussions of each decision we make. This isn’t to say doing so is always the easiest. Whether we see it immediately or 10 years from now, life has a way of bringing it all back around. Our daily decisions have a long term impact.

Kobe Bryant used to wake up at 4 a.m. each day to train long before others joined him.

Warren Buffet spends 80% of his work day reading, whether it’s articles, newspapers or financial reports.

The Rock works out 6 days per week for 3 to 4 hours each day.

So on and so forth . . .

Each of the examples above represent a variation of what it might look like to improve daily, but the key is the amount of discipline and consistency required to achieve the results of those mentioned cannot be overstated.

“May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears.” – Nelson Mandela

Being face to face with decisions that were made years ago can be an uncomfortable feeling when you haven’t committed yourself to the work. Someone stated to me in a recent conversation that they believe I’m unwilling to take a break, because I’m afraid to lose something else. The statement caught me off guard, because there is truth to it. Life can be pretty unforgiving and I have been in a space where I wasn’t happy with the results. It’s not fun. Taking a step back and looking at the bigger picture, I’m heavily invested in my growth. The ROI is massive and I look forward to those returns.

To paraphrase something I heard recently, the difference between those who succeed and those who don’t is what they do when they’re bored. Whether you think about boredom in literal terms or simply the opportunity to make progress or to regress, what we do with this time is critical. We’ve all heard the saying. What is done in the darkness eventually comes to light. You might not think about it in these terms, but it applies here. In this day and age, artificial intelligence can streamline your processes, certain tasks can be automated and many aspects of your life can be scheduled. Despite all of this, you cannot hide from the work.

I am grateful for all of the efforts I put in over the years, but there is so much more out there. What’s paramount right now is my focus on the daily work. What results do you want a year from now? 5 years from now? 10 years from now? Today’s decisions are crucial in making that vision a reality. It’s a tough road, but this is the season to get it done.

You owe it to yourself.

As always, remember . . .

No matter what happens in your life, no matter how tough it gets…

It’s gonna hurt, but it won’t kill you.
