Another Day Might Be Too Long

If you know anything about me, you’re aware 90’s R&B music has me in a chokehold. I have curated playlists with a variety of artists on my Apple Music and Spotify accounts to create the vibes whenever I am cooking or cleaning, to relax after a long day or when I find myself in need of a pick me up. Lately, I have had Jodeci on repeat. They said, “Another day might be too long.” While it’s not at all connected to what they were singing about, this idea is what drives me to continue working on myself each day.

The concept of waiting another day to be the best version of Tilmon is consistently on my mind. I rolled over this morning and didn’t feel like I could move after a crazy workout yesterday. I paused for a second, took a deep breath then hopped out the bed, turned my swag on, took a look in the mirror… okay, I’m joking. I definitely jolted out of the bed to begin my process though. Some days might not be as productive as others, but taking the small steps each day to reach my goals make a huge difference when I look back on what I accomplished each week. Naturally, we want to see progress in our lives. When it’s not happening, things tend to get a bit murky, so I decided to outline the steps on what needed to occur in order to be the best version of myself.

In my ebook, Change Your L.I.F.E. Be Your Best Self, I outlined 6 important pieces to this equation:

1) Decide who you’re going to be.

2) Make a commitment to yourself.

3) Take full accountability.

4) Challenge yourself consistently.

5) Show up! Expect pain, experience growth.

6) Cut the weeds. Channel your focus.

I consider these six steps to be essential to reach the outcomes we are aiming for. With a guide in place, I have the foundation of all of the work I need to do. I made a decision about being a vessel to help others and building a space for people to share their stories. I have committed myself to the work. I have more accountability in place than I ever have. It’s necessary for me to show up for every single challenge, because that is where the real growth is. My focus has ramped up, because without it, I am unable to serve anyone. Can you see it? If we simply commit to ourselves, remain disciplined and follow through, the results will follow. If you’re still waiting on someone else to step in, it will only delay the progress you seek.

I am not here to tell you everything you’re after comes to you immediately. Instant gratification is not what we’re after, but we can certainly change our lives for the better one day at at time. Let’s get there together.

It’s gonna hurt, but it won’t kill you.
